THE BEST MORNING CINNAMON BUNS

This recipe is my all time favourite. I totally cheat and use my bread machine to make these. Because honestly, it’s so dang easy and convenient to use. You can totally make this recipe if you don’t have a bread machine. Just find the perfect dough recipe and skip steps 1 through 4. I make these so often and I love that I can make them the night before, let them rise overnight in the fridge and freshly bake them in the morning. If you have made cinnamon buns before, you know they are a labour of love and take forever. But they are well worth the work.

Dough:

  • 1 1/4 cups milk

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, cut into pieces

  • 3 cups all purpose flour

  • 3 tbsp sugar

  • 1 1/4 tsp salt

  • 2 1/2 tsp bread machine yeast

Filling:

  • 3/4 cups brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp cinnamon

  • 6 tbsp melted butter

Directions:

  1. To make the dough, place all ingredients into the bread machine pan in order as listed above. Program for the dough cycle. Press start.

  2. Combine sugar and cinnamon for the filling in a small bowl. Set aside.

  3. Once the dough cycle is complete, turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Roll it into a 12 x 15 inch rectangle.

  4. Spread the surface evenly with the butter and sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over top of the butter.

  5. Roll the dough up from the long edge. Cut into 12 equal parts using a serrated knife with each slice being about 1 1/2 inches thick.

  6. Place the slices closely together in a greased pan

  7. Cover with a towel and let rise at room temperature for 45 minutes or until they are puffy and even with the rim of the pan. (The rolls can be refrigerated before this last rise, covered tightly with a double layer of plastic wrap, leaving the rolls to rise slowly and be baked in the morning. Remove the pan from the refrigerator and let rest for 20 minutes before baking.)

  8. Preheat oven to 350 degrees

  9. Bake the buns until the tops are brown about 30-35 minutes. Remove from oven and let stand no more than 5 minutes in the pan. Place wire rack on top of the pan and invert the pan on top of the rack. Let cool for 20 minutes.

  10. Best served warm! Enjoy.

If you end up making these delicious cinnamon buns, let me know what you think of them and I can’t wait to see pictures of what you create.
