Tofino Roadtrip/Babymoon – MAY 2017

Its funny how being a photographer, you never have the time to edit your own personal photos. When you do have free time, the last thing you want to do is spend it editing. Last May, my husband and I took a road trip to Tofino as one last trip before our son arrived. It was honestly one of the best trips we’ve ever been on, and one of the coolest. Totally random and laid back. We had absolutely nothing planned, we literally jumped in the vehicle and drove west. For those of you who know me understand when I say I am a planner. I literally would plan every hour of my day if I could. So this trip was totally out of my comfort zone but totally worth it!

The trip started out a little rocky. We got stuck on the highway in golden for 5 hours due to road closures from mud/rock slides. That was fun. Once the highway opened, we were some of the first people to get back on it. We were on the highway for all of 15 minutes when we witnessed a horrific accident with a semi and a truck hauling a boat. We were the third car behind this accident and I count my blessings everyday that it was not us involved. Completely out of cell service and no one around. We were stuck on that stretch of the highway in the middle of nowhere for another 13 hours. We almost made the decision to turn around and head back to Calgary as we were not having much luck. I’m so glad Darcy made me tough it out during the 19+ hours of waiting on the highway.

Something on my bucket list has always been to wander through tulip fields, a dream of mine is actually to go to Holland during this season. We didn’t even plan this, but Abbotsford was having their annual tulip festival while we were driving through so that was our first stop. Thousands and thousands of tulips and rows to walk through. It was absolutely breathtaking and also so crowded with people.

From Abbotsford we headed to Vancouver. I have been to Vancouver before for a conference, but this was Darcys first time. We did a lot of exploring and coffee drinking. We went to the suspension bridge and granville island which were both equally as cool.

We took our first ferry ride across to Vancouver Island which was so awesome! I wish I took more pictures with my camera on this trip, but unfortunately those are all on my iPhone! We spotted some whales which was pretty neat to see! Next we went to Cathedral Groove on our way to Tofino. I think this was one of my favorite parts of the whole trip. This forrest is absolutely incredible and has the biggest trees I’ve ever seen. If you’re ever on the island, check it out. Totally worth it!

We were so happy to finally arrive in Tofino after the extremely long trip. It was such a unreal, quaint and quiet place. The air was so fresh and crisp. The people were so friendly and laid back. Our hotel was located right on Mackenzie Beach and while laying in bed we had a full view of the ocean. There is something to peaceful about waking up to the waves. I was sick most of our trip and didn’t have the energy to do much, so we did a lot of walking up and down the beaches and sitting watching surfers.
