The proposal story

Over the past 3 weeks, I have had so many people ask me how it happened. Where it happened. What I said. What he said. How I felt. As much as I absolutely love telling the story over and over, I decided I should just write it down! Be prepared, this is going to be a long one.

As most of you know, Darcy and I have been together for 5 years now. Of course, after dating for that long the topic of marriage comes up every now and than. I always knew he was the one, I knew within the first couple months of us dating. Only being 17 years old and knowing that he’s the one, sounds crazy, right? Thats the last thing I thought I would be thinking about when I was 17. But honestly, we clicked, we get each other, were so different but so similar in so many ways. I feel like we were made for each other (I swear I’m not usually cheesy…..)

I knew this was going to happen sooner or later, but I was always thinking later, not sooner. We planned a trip to Phoenix for a week with Darcy, his sister Stacey and her boyfriend Jeff, leaving October 7th. We had everything planned out, bought our football tickets, outlined our trip to Sedona, basketball games and all the in betweens. I may or may not have made a couple (subtle, of course) hints before our trip to Arizona. “Hey Darcy, don’t you think it would be cool to get engaged in Arizona.” Every time he either changed the subject, or brushed it off, so I decided to stop making my not so subtle hints. The time came for our trip to Phoenix. We were all so excited for a much needed holiday from work and life. We planned our day trip to Sedona on our 2nd day in Arizona. The night before we left for Sedona, we were just sitting around talking about what we were going to do and see while we were in Sedona. I googled “Things to do in Sedona”. A list of 10 things came up in my google search. 1) Pink Jeep Tour 2) Take a helicopter ride 3) Get Engaged. Me, being not so subtle again blurts out “How cool would that be to get engaged in Sedona”. At this point Darcy is probably sitting here thinking “Would you please just shuuuuuut up already and stop ruining this for yourself?” I can honestly say at this point I had NO idea any of this was happening, I had no idea Darcy’s plans or know this was even happening.

We spent the day in Sedona, we had a great day. Spent the morning 4 wheeling through the desert, wandering through different shops and exploring. We were all pretty tired from a long day, so we decided we should probably just head back to Phoenix. Darcy suggested we quickly head up to Chapel Rock before leaving Sedona for the day. I obviously said yes. For those of you who know me and my love for Sedona, know this is my ultimate FAVORITE place in the world. Sedona holds a very special place in my heart, as does Chapel Rock. Chapel Rock over looks the beautiful rock formations. The view is absolutely incredible. Every time we go to Sedona, I have to make a stop here. We take the small hike up to the top, and I go inside the Chapel. I always love to look around inside as it is so small and unique. I take my time, than I decided to leave and snap a couple pictures of the chapel and the view from the top. As I’m taking pictures of these rocks in front of me, some older man comes up to me. Out of the corner of my eye I see Darcy talking to Stacey, both of them acting really nervous and weird. I didn’t think anything of it. This man than starts talking to me for a good 5 minutes, going on about Nuns and some joke about how nuns made the rock formations. Weird. Trust me, it was random and probably the weirdest story I have ever heard. Stacey then comes up to me, saving me from this awful story (thank you for that by the way) and asks me to take a picture of Jeff and her with the beautiful view behind them. Okay, fine. I take the picture. At this point, I’m still trying to figure out what the heck just happened and make sense of this story. Stacey than says “Why don’t I take a picture of you and Darcy?” Okay, sure. I love it here, why not take a picture. So Darcy and I walk over and stand to get our picture taken. Darcy says to me “Why don’t we just sit down?” I’m thinking in my head, okay…. why can’t we just take a picture standing, but okay, whatever you want. As we sit down, Stacey just starts snapping pictures like crazy. I’m thinking, why is she taking so many dang pictures??  We pose for our picture(s), than Darcy starts to move his body so it is facing me. Okay, what the heck is going on??????

My heart literally started pounding. I knew what was going to happen next. The way he was looking at me. The way he was fidgeting. I could feel his legs shaking. Than, out comes the ring box. Tears start rolling down my cheeks, my smile is literally bigger than you could ever believe. I don’t remember what he said. I just remember saying “SERIOUSLY?” Wrapping my arms around him and squeezing him tight. Thinking, I’m the luckiest girl in the world, right now and forever. Yes, Yes Yes!!!!!

In that moment, it was hands down the best, most important, amazing and memorable moment of my life. I don’t think I have ever been happier and I was so surprised. He did so good. Not only did he pick out an amazing ring, but he put thought into the whole process. Sedona now takes up a bigger spot in my heart. Darcy on the other hand, takes up the whole thing! This man, is everything to me. I am so incredibly grateful for him and couldn’t be happier to spend the rest of my life with him!

I can’t thank you all enough for reading that insanely long story, I hope it was worth it. All your love, support, kind wishes and congratulations means so much to both of us. We couldn’t be happier!

Also, a huge thanks to Stacey for the amazing pictures, I love them with all my heart.
